SR-4 Aurora marks a major shift for GTSR as the first multi-occupant vehicle developed by our team. It is the first ever 4-seater solar car developed by a North American team and debuted in the Formula Sun Grand Prix in Summer 2025.
Aurora offers significant design improvements to our frame with the addition of an aluminum and carbon fiber sandwich composite chassis to the steel roll cage. The vehicle features a 14 kWh lithium-ion battery pack and a 1.2 kW solar array as well as custom in-hub radial flux motors.
In addition to the low-voltage systems we have developed on our existing vehicles, we pioneered new board designs for power management and conversion: a battery management system (BMS) with active balancing and a maximum power point tracker (MPPT) for optimizing solar array power.
Unlike single-occupant vehicles, aesthetics and usability are important to SR-4’s interior and exterior design. The vehicle contains a multiple-display information system powered by a live telemetry server, cruise control, and an external charging port allowing the battery pack to charge in merely 3 hours.
Following our podium finish at FSGP 2025, vehicle improvements are underway and the team is looking forward to racing SR-4 Aurora in ASC 2026.
