On a sunny day at Georgia Tech, the Solar Racing team is turning sunlight into motion, showcasing the future of sustainable transportation.

 

WOOLSEY: Right now we're breaking boundaries. We're the first four-person, American solar-powered car at this competition.

 

Multi Occupant Vehicle (MOV) Class: Third Place: Georgia Institute of Technology, finishing with a score of 11.7 and 55 laps.

 

After driving 170 miles in their custom-built solar-powered car at the 2025 Electrek Formula Sun Grand Prix, the Georgia Tech Solar Racing team heads into next year looking to go even farther.

 

Georgia Tech Solar Racing (GTSR) is a student-run organization that designs and builds street-legal solar-powered race cars for track and cross-country competitions around the world. 

 

The Savoy Automobile Museum’s newest temporary exhibit, “Georgia Tech Student Competition Center Engineering Vehicles,” will run through August 27th.

 

It wasn't a first-place finish recently for the Georgia Tech Solar Racing Team. But the team of 70 or so students from more than 14 different disciplines were still proud of a big achievement — becoming one of only eight squads to complete a cross-country race in a sun-powered car.
